Help @ the Cross – COC Care Ministry
Outreach is an integral part of our mission at Cross of Christ Church and School. We recognize that many in our community are new to the area and perhaps away from family supports. To that end, we can offer spiritual and practical assistance and guidance in the following areas on a situational basis:
- Meals
- Visits (Home/Hospital/Hospice)
- Child Care
- Crisis Follow-up (Spiritual/Therapeutic/Intervention)
- Telephone calls (Situational and ongoing)
- Errands/Advocacy Needs
- Therapy and treatment assessment
On an ongoing educational and support basis, we offer groups in the following areas; DivorceCare, DivorceCare4Kids, Parent Support, Praying Parents. For further assistance, to make a referral or to discuss individual needs, please contact Lola Leshney @ COC or Lola@anthemcross.org.
Parenting Help
Praying Parents – Praying Parents meets under the COC canopy on Monday mornings at 8:05 and 9:05. Facilitated by Lee Richardson and Lola Leshney, this is an opportunity for parents to quickly connect and lift up our school, our church and our families on a general or specific basis. For those who cannot join us in person, Prayer Request cards are available (in the Church foyer and school bulletin board) to complete and drop off (in the Tuition Box in the A Building by the front office) or via email at Lola@anthemcross.org.
Parent Support Group – We recognize that parenting issues come in all shapes and sizes, from dealing with sibling rivalry to effective discipline techniques and general feelings of being overwhelmed. Here is an opportunity to vent, network and share parenting tips with others. This weekly education and support group, facilitated by Lola Leshney (Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist) meets Tuesday evenings, 7:00 – 8:30 in Room 218 (B Building). This is an open group, free to the community, featuring information on specific topics and age-related issues, as well as time to discuss individual concerns. Information regarding specific topics will be posted in the Cross of Christ weekly bulletin as well as the Warrior News. Advance registration is requested to ensure space availability. Please call COC Church or School or email Lola@anthemcross.org.
DivorceCare – DivorceCare is a special weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced. It features biblical teaching, combined with video seminars and a small group setting, offering an opportunity to learn to deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding one’s life. You are welcome to begin attending the DivorceCare group on any week of the 13-week cycle. Each session is self-contained, dealing with topics such as Anger, Depression, New Relationships and Financial Survival. There is a 1-time charge of $15 for the seminar Workbook and a $5.00 per-session cost. This group meets Thursday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 in Room 218 (B Building). Advance registration is required only to arrange for first attendance and order workbook. Please call COC Church or email Lola@anthemcross.org to register or request further information.
DivorceCare4Kids – DivorceCare4Kids is the complement program to DivorceCare, designed to address the issues of children 5-12 years of age. The DC4K content is synchronized with the DivorceCare program, creating the opportunity for kids and parents to have meaningful conversations about the concerns they face. This weekly program is held at COC on Monday afternoons from 3:30 – 4:45. Like the DivorceCare program, this is an open group with a 13 week curriculum and specific weekly topics. It is highly recommended, however, that children who begin in the group attend on a regular basis, so to enhance bonding, trust and routine in the group setting. Per session cost is $5.00. Advance registration is required. Please call COC Church or email Lola@anthemcross.org to register or request further information.
Help @ the Cross – How You Can Help
The mission of Cross of Christ Church and School is to help connect people to Jesus. One way of enhancing that relationship is to help people connect to one another through service and fellowship. There are many ways in which we invite you to share your time and talents in the COC community, from making phone calls or visits to congregants in need, or volunteering to provide a meal or even becoming a group facilitator as our Care Ministries expand. Specific (brief) training will be made available for those who are interested in providing face-to-face visits to address situational issues related to illness, grief and assessing follow-up needs. For further information about how you can help COC help others, please contact COC Church or email Lola@anthemcross.org |
