LESSON 34 - The Man Who Didn't Have Any Friends (None)

The story of Zacchaeus from Luke 19

Big Idea for Parents
Jesus knew all about Zacchaeus – the stealing and everything – and he loved him. What moved Zacchaeus to change wasn’t someone coming down hard on him, but someone loving him even when he knew how unlovable Zacchaeus was. Look for ways to communicate to your child(ren) that God’s love and your love doesn’t change, even when you see what’s unlovable about them.

Devotion Introduction
What would your life be like if you didn’t have any friends? Why do you like having friends?
Jesus once met a man who had no friends. His name was Zacchaeus. Let’s read what happened (Read pages 264-271).

Questions

  • Why didn’t Zacchaeus have any friends?
  • Why did Jesus want to go to Zacchaeus’ house even when no one else would?
  • What makes Jesus such a good friend to us?

Prayer
Heavenly Father, you love us even though you know everything about us that isn’t lovable. We ask for your Holy Spirit to help us be a friend to others in the same way that you are a friend to us. In Jesus name, Amen.
