Jesus teaches about prayer; paraphrase of the Lord’s Prayer, from Matthew 6
Big Idea for Parents
A simple definition of prayer is talking to God. Your kids will learn to pray from praying during worship and listening to you pray. That might sound like a lot of pressure, but it doesn’t need to be! God doesn’t listen to your prayers because they are eloquent or have just the right words; he listens to your prayers because of Jesus and his love for you (Romans 8:26-27, 34).
Jesus disciples were confused about how to pray to God. Some people thought you had to use fancy words and voices to pray. But Jesus teaches us an easier way to pray. Let’s listen to find out what he said (read pages 222-227).
- Why didn’t Jesus use fancy words and a fancy voice when he prayed?
- What do you like about the prayer Jesus taught us to pray (the Lord’s Prayer)?
- What are some things you could pray for?
- What are some things you’d like to thank God for?
Dear heavenly Father, thanks for always hearing our prayers because of your love for us in Jesus. We thank you for ___________________ and especially for being a loving Father who listens to us, in Jesus name, Amen.
